Korean FYI

We have been in Mokpo for only 4 days and we have already noticed some interesting things.

1) The service button:
Most restaurants have a service button. This means your server will only come to you when you press the button which alerts them that you need their service. Both of us have been exposed to this when we were studying abroad in Asia but the information must have slipped our minds when we came to Mokpo. We learned the hard way the first night we ate out. Alan would go in search of our server for everything we would need, until the third time when she came running to us and pointed to the button, which was under the table marked by a little arrow and something written in Korean. Note to self, remember to check under your table!

2) Paying for plastic bags 
After our second day in Mokpo, we decided to check out one of the local supermarkets (think Walmart but infinitely better) E-Mart. After buying the necessities, we proceeded to checkout. Our lady asked us something in Korean, which we had no reply, then took our money and gave us change. We realized in the fifteen seconds that she probabaly asked us if we needed bags.... After a long game of sharades, and Alan getting yelled at for reaching over the counter to point to a bag, we figured out that we had to pay for them. A definite good to know.
